What is Polytechnic Course?
A polytechnic course is a progressive learning experience in which students can pursue a diploma or vocational degree based on technical education. These courses are a legitimate alternative to degree programs, and students can pursue them after finishing high school. Polytechnic courses emphasize on the development of skills and practical experience over theoretical knowledge. Students obtain a diploma upon completion, which often qualifies them to seek jobs in their selected sector.
In recent years, there has been a notable growth in the total number of admissions into polytechnic programs. Several colleges provide a variety of diploma degrees in various subjects, including engineering. Many prestigious engineering schools offer diploma programs in a variety of B.Tech disciplines.

What After Polytechnic?
- Btech/BE
- AIME Certification
- Graduation Specific Stream
1) B.Tech
The most common choice for Polytechnic Diploma holders, particularly those from engineering fields, is to pursue B.Tech or B.E. Applicants must take the corresponding Engineering Entrance Exams for the college and subject they choose to pursue. Many engineering colleges accept Engineering Diploma students for lateral entry. Lateral entrance involves entering the engineering programme in the second or third semester of a B.Tech / B.E. programme. Several colleges run separate entrance exams to screen diploma holders for lateral entry admission.
Eligibility – The candidate should have passed 12th or completed diploma from a recognized university.
Average Salary – INR 2.5 TO 4 LPA
2) AIME
Another alternative for engineering diploma holders is to enrol in the AIME Certification Course. A.I.M.E (Associate Member of the Institutions of Engineers) certification is a professional designation that is comparable to a B.E. degree. The Institute of Engineering, India awards AIME certificates to those who finish the AIME course. The AIME test is divided into two divisions, and the curriculum takes approximately four years to complete. Polytechnic Diploma holders, on the other hand, are exempt from taking a few papers from Section A, namely Project Work. They can obtain the AIME accreditation in about three years.
Eligibility Criteria – The candidate should have pursued 12th or a diplma from a recognised university.
Average Salary – INR 2.5 TO 4 LPA
3) Graduation Specific Stream
In addition to B.Tech and B.E. programmes, Polytechnic Diploma holders can pursue graduation in their particular study domain by enrolling in a three-year normal under-graduate course. This option is particularly appealing for Diploma holders from non-engineering programmes who are eligible to attend three-year standard graduation programmes such as B.Sc, B.A., BCA, and B.Com. To be eligible for admission to these courses, students must have completed their Class 12 Board Exam or +2 certifications.
Eligibility Criteria- The Candidate should have passed diploma or an equivalent degree form a recognised university.
Average Salary – INR 2 TO 4 LPA
